Sturmayr Coiffeure Opens Temporary Flagship Salon in Salzburg’s Griesgasse

Opening of Sturmayr Coiffeure’s temporary flagship salon in Griesgasse, Salzburg

Salzburg's old town is shaped year-round by cultural life. Close to Griesgasse are several of the city's main performance venues, including locations used during the Salzburg Easter Festival, the Pentecost Festival and the summer Salzburg Festival. The area is known for its dense mix of historic buildings, cultural institutions and long-established local businesses. Within this setting, Sturmayr Coiffeure has opened a new temporary flagship salon at Griesgasse 31.

A long-established Austrian hairdressing company

Sturmayr Coiffeure is one of Austria's best-known hairdressing companies. Founded in 1918, the family-run business has developed over more than a century into a nationwide group with 16 salons and around 140 employees. While the company also operates locations in Vienna and other regions, Salzburg remains its central base. Several Sturmayr salons are located in or near the historic old town.

Temporary relocation within the old town

The new salon in Griesgasse serves as a temporary replacement for the company's flagship store in the AVA-Hof at Hanuschplatz, which is currently undergoing extensive renovation. The distance between the two locations is short: the new site is about a two-minute walk from the original address. According to the company, the relocation is intended to maintain uninterrupted operations during the construction period.

The temporary flagship salon was officially opened with a symbolic ribbon cut by owner Christian Sturmayr together with salon manager Stefanie Schneider.

Pop-up salon as operational centre

The temporary location covers around 360 square metres across three levels. In addition to salon services, it also houses the Sturmayr Academy as well as the company's administrative offices. Twelve employees work directly in the salon area. The interior design was developed by the Salzburg-based architecture and design studio Marcel Eberhardter.

The pop-up salon in Griesgasse is scheduled to operate for approximately two years. Once the renovation of the AVA-Hof is completed, Sturmayr Coiffeure plans to return its flagship store to Hanuschplatz in 2027. Until then, the Griesgasse location will function as the company's main Salzburg site.
