The Spirit of the Wiener Werkstätte

There was an air of collaborative elegance at the Spring/Summer 2025 fashion presentation by Juergen Christian Hoerl (JCH) and Steinmetz-Bundy Privatsalon, hosted at the couturier's boutique and atelier on Vienna's Burgring. The event evoked the spirit of the Wiener Werkstätte—where designers, artists, and thinkers once gathered to merge creativity across disciplines. This "Mai-Cocktail" evening brought together a uniquely Viennese bouquet of arts and crafts: from tailored fashion to hair styling innovations, fragrance artistry to accessories, each element distinct, yet harmoniously interwoven.

Juergen Christian Hoerl: Day to Night Elegance

Couturier Juergen Christian Hoerl presented a versatile array of pieces—from everyday shirt dresses with couture touch to flowing evening gowns. His signature approach to timeless elegance was on full display. A highlight of the collection was the premiere of a cotton shopper, dusted with a Swarovski crystal coating, shimmering subtly as it debuted on the intimate salon runway. The garments exemplify JCH's long-standing dedication to artisanal quality.

Hair Trends by Hannes Steinmetz: A Focus on Natural Beauty

Hannes Steinmetz, creative director of the Steinmetz-Bundy Privatsalon, personally introduced the hair trends for the season. In collaboration with his wife Vanessa, he steers the company's two salons known for individual consultation and exceptional craftsmanship. The new 'Gold & Honey' looks celebrated a natural aesthetic with healthy, glowing hair at the core—ranging in length from playful bobs to long, flowing styles.

A standout was a sculpted short haircut, gradually lengthening at the nape—a modern reinterpretation of the "graduated bob"—dyed in a golden honey hue. "It's a temporary color," Steinmetz told Fashion.at, referencing the Wella Professionals line he has been working with since several years. "There's no damage to the hair. After a few washes, the model's own blonde returns—fresh and untouched."

Honey Bee Hair Care: Eco-Luxury from Vienna

Vanessa Steinmetz-Bundy shared insights on the newly launched Honey Bee Hair Care line, developed in partnership with Lederhaas Cosmetics. The hydrating shampoo and moisturizing conditioner are certified organic and tailor-made for salon-level eco-luxury. "It's about combining natural ingredients with the high-performance standards our clients expect," she explained. The line fits seamlessly into the salon's commitment to sustainability and excellence.

A Fragrant Pause: Eva Petrič's Niche Perfumes

Between the fashion and hair presentations, guests strolled through the boutique's elegant chambers, discovering silk scarves, crystal-accented accessories, aand a collection of artistic perfumes by Slovenian artist Eva Petrič, who lives in Ljubljana, Vienna, and New York. She introduced her DBE – Data Bank of Emotions fragrance line, featuring limited editions such as Lavinia, @pple girl, and MoonH₂O. A standout among them was "aI@432Hz - To Be Or Not To Be aI or AI", a conceptual scent that explores identity and perception in the age of artificial intelligence. Available at Bergdorf Goodman in New York and presented last month at Liska in Salzburg, the perfume line weaves Petrič's visual artistry into an olfactory narrative that challenges the boundaries between art, emotion, and technology.

Workwear with Style: The JCH Corporate Wear Division 'Hoerl-Wagner'

In the second intermission, Fashion.at spoke with Arnold Markus, who manages the JCH workwear division Hoerl-Wagner. This relatively new branch of the label focuses on corporate wear concepts and customized workwear. From reception uniforms at The Guesthouse Vienna to unisex pajamas for ÖBB Nightjets (Austrian Federal Railways), the label emphasizes custom tailoring for select hotel uniforms and high-quality, durable ready-to-wear products. "For select product lines, each piece is tailored to the measurements of the employees," Markus noted. "It's corporate wear with a personal fit."

Looking Ahead: Fashion and Media in a Changing World

The evening wasn't just a feast for the senses—it was a meeting point for Vienna's creative and media scene. Fashion.at engaged in conversations with guests about the pressing challenges currently facing the fashion industry. Topics included the relentless pace of fast fashion, rising production and living costs, and a media landscape in flux—shaped increasingly by digital consumption patterns and shrinking attention spans. These informal exchanges highlighted a shared concern for the future of creative work under mounting economic and technological pressure.

Yet, amid these changes, events like this offer a glimpse of resilience and reinvention. Like a well-steered ship navigating reefs, Vienna's fashion scene shows that with creativity, collaboration, and authenticity, it can sail into promising new waters.
