26 July 2026 From Shoes to Self-Care: Deichmann Launches a Foot Care Beauty Range![]()
Quick Read
Good shoes can make walking more comfortable, but they are only part of the equation. The condition of the feet themselves—skin, nails and overall comfort—also plays an important role in everyday wellbeing. This simple idea forms the background to Deichmann's latest product launch. The company is entering a new category with its first dedicated foot care line.
• Healthy feet are the foundation of comfortable walking, yet foot care is often overlooked until problems arise. From a Family Shoe Shop to Market LeaderAustria's shoe market has changed considerably over the past decade. Consolidation, acquisitions and increasing international investment have reshaped a sector that was once characterised by more domestic ownership. Throughout these changes, one retailer has steadily strengthened its position.Founded in 1913 by Heinrich and Julie Deichmann in Essen-Borbeck, Germany, the company remains family-owned more than a century later, with its global headquarters still located in Essen. What began as a small shoe repair business has developed into one of the world's largest footwear retailers, operating more than 4,700 stores in 36 countries and employing around 50,000 people. Austria has played a special role in that growth. In 1992, it became the first international market into which Deichmann expanded under its own name. Today the retailer operates around 174 stores across the country and is regarded as the market leader in Austrian shoe retail. Its success is generally attributed to a straightforward concept: offering fashionable footwear for different age groups while maintaining prices that remain affordable for a broad customer base. That balance between style, accessibility and value has become one of the company's defining characteristics. Looking Beyond the ShoeThe introduction of Foot Care Spa marks a logical extension of that philosophy. While footwear has always been the company's core business, comfortable walking depends on more than selecting the right pair of shoes. Dry skin, friction, blisters or tired feet can affect everyday mobility regardless of the footwear itself.Without having independently tested the products, one observation can already be made from a consumer perspective: the new range enters the market at comparatively accessible prices, with individual products priced between €4.99 and €5.99. Based on Deichmann's long-established positioning, it is reasonable to expect that the company intends to apply the same principle to foot care that has characterised its footwear business—offering practical everyday products that combine functionality with affordability. Five Products for Everyday Foot CareThe Foot Care Spa collection consists of five products, each addressing a common challenge associated with walking, warm weather or prolonged time on one's feet. Rather than positioning foot care as an occasional luxury, the range presents it as part of an everyday routine. The Shiny Glow Nail Oil Spray is designed to moisturise nails and the surrounding skin, helping to maintain a well-groomed appearance, particularly after exposure to sun, sand or dry conditions. For tired feet after a long day, the Cool Breeze Cooling Spray provides an instant cooling sensation intended to refresh and revitalise. The Silky Way Barefoot Spray focuses on comfort when wearing shoes without socks. According to the company, it helps keep feet feeling dry while making barefoot wear more pleasant, particularly during the warmer months. The Smooth Touch Blister Protection Stick creates a protective layer on areas exposed to friction, aiming to reduce the likelihood of blisters when wearing new shoes or sandals. Completing the collection is the Dream Step Glass Callus File, a reusable tool developed for the gentle removal of rough skin while supporting regular foot maintenance. Together, the products reflect familiar foot care advice: keep the skin moisturised, reduce friction before discomfort develops, refresh tired feet and remove excess callus gently rather than aggressively. None of these recommendations is new, but combining them in one coordinated collection makes everyday foot care more accessible for consumers shopping for footwear at the same time. Foot Care Is Also Part of Walking ComfortThe launch also illustrates a subtle shift in perspective. Shoe retailers have traditionally focused on what surrounds the foot—design, fit and materials. By introducing a dedicated foot care range, Deichmann acknowledges that comfort also depends on the condition of the foot itself.Whether consumers adopt the complete routine or simply keep a blister stick in their travel bag, the collection addresses practical situations many people experience during summer holidays, city trips or everyday commuting. At the same time, the relatively modest price point suggests that basic foot care does not necessarily require premium cosmetic products or expensive spa treatments. Ultimately, healthy feet contribute to confident movement. Comfortable walking is not determined by shoes alone but by the interaction between footwear and the wellbeing of the feet inside them. Looking after them regularly—through suitable shoes, sensible habits and simple care—can make everyday life noticeably more comfortable. Sometimes the smallest routines are the ones that carry us the furthest.
