In march 2007 the National Osteoporosis Foundation (USA) reports that more than 8 million women suffer from osteoporosis, a disease that robs bones of calcium and makes them more prone to breaking. Doctors say women over 50 are at greater risk for the disease due to the amount of estrogen they lose after menopause. In addition to having a family history of the disease, people who smoke and consume high amounts of alcohol are also at greater risk.
